The department specializes in all kinds of diagnostic and invasive processes such as punctures, biopsies, effusion drainage, etc. It is equipped with a cutting-edge multislice CT Scanner with 128 scanning probes. This device allows the performance of new tests including:
- CT coronary angiography: It has revolutionized primary care. It allows for a painless and non-invasive assessment of the heart’s coronary vessels and has proved equivalent to conventional coronary angiography with heart catheterization in the diagnosis of hemodynamically significant constrictions requiring treatment.
- Calcium scoring (measurement of the build-up of calcium on the walls of the heart’s coronary arteries). This quantity has been correlated to the chances of developing heart disease)
- CT pyelography. It has, to a large extent, replaced conventional pyelography since it provides more information on all diagnostic questions pertaining to the urinary system.
- CT coronary angiography. Is performed on any vessel of the body painlessly and non-invasively within seconds and is considered equivalent to invasive coronary angiography (with catheterization) for diagnosing critical constrictions.
The Department boasts an Image Checker CAD system by R2 that facilitates the detection of pulmonary nodules and its application has been proved to improve the chance of the early diagnosis of lung cancer and consequently patients' survival rate.
It is also recommended for follow-up use in oncology patients because it allows the most accurate measurement of the number and size of pulmonary nodules thus contributing significantly to the evaluation of patients' response to the applied treatment.
